I started as a GCS major because I wanted to continue my study of Mandarin on the collegiate level. I was unsure of what specific career I would pursue but I knew I wanted to incorporate China and Mandarin in my career. The GCS program was broad and flexible so I was able to take courses in many different fields and yet the course material was still related to China in some way. I took classes in modern and ancient history, environmental studies, international relations, education and so on until I finally landed on a field I wanted to pursue post graduation. The ability to take courses in a wide range of disciplines and yet receive a comprehensive study of China is what I am most appreciative with my GCS degree.
